'Good To Lose To Carlos': Djokovic Explains Motivational Factor Behind Alcaraz Wimbledon Loss

| by Evita Mueller

Novak Djokovic did a lot of winning this year, but he was also beaten on the biggest stage by Carlos Alcaraz, which makes it a bit more bearable.

Novak Djokovic didn't want to lose the Wimbledon final to Alcaraz. That match was pretty painful for the Serbian as he was seemingly on the cusp of winning after playing a relatively routine ball into the net.

Had he won that point, Djokovic likely would have had another Wimbledon trophy, but he got three consolation prizes in Melbourne, Paris, and New York.

It's one of the more painful losses for Djokovic, even though he doesn't dwell on it. He talked to Marca during his stay in Malaga for the Davis Cup and admitted that he tries to learn from his defeats, and judging by the way he finished the year, he certainly did.

The loss to Alcaraz was also a big motivator for Djokovic because the rivals were catching up with him. He put in the work needed and was able to once again put some distance between himself and his rivals.

I lost at Wimbledon and since then I have won everything except for the match with Sinner in the group stage in Turin. If I analyse the year, I could say that it was good to lose to Carlos because it motivated me for the rest of the season.

Now it's about finishing the year strongly in Malaga, so let's see what happens. This time around, the outcome will depend not only on himself but on his teammates as well.
