Novak Djokovic is in Belgrade, and he talked a bit about his next move, confirming that there are no imminent plans to hire a coach.
A few days ago, Djokovic shocked the tennis world by letting go of Goran Ivanisevic. It was a strange move in many ways because not many saw it coming. Things had not gone smoothly recently, but a sudden parting seemed a bit excessive.
A few noted that it's not a move generally done at this time of the season, but Djokovic did it. It reportedly came after a significant argument, though we don't really know how true that is.
Djokovic has talked to the media since then, first confirming that he doesn't have a bad relationship with Goran Ivanisevic, who will always be part of the family.
The next thing he said when talking to the media in Belgrade, Serbia, was to confirm that he has no plans of hiring a new coach soon.
"I still don’t have a clear idea who a new coach would be, or whether there will be one at all. I’ve had coaches since I was a kid, now I am trying to feel by myself what I need, what I feel most comfortable with. You will be informed in case someone joins the team."
Hiring a coach so soon doesn't make much sense because it's not a decision that players should ever rush. On the other hand, there is a chance that he enters the summer stretch without a coach, and that's just not his style either.
He did also praise Ivanisevic once more calling him a friend for life, despite them parting ways professionally.
"First of all, Goran is my friend for life, mine and of my family’s. He is a very dear person for me, the end of our professional collaboration doesn’t mean that our friendship stops."
"Our separation has been positive, as positive as a separation can be. We have come to a point where we’ve exhausted our cooperation after almost five years."
