Djokovic Didn't Win His 25th Grand Slam At Australian Open But Will He Ever Win It?

| by Zachary Wimer

Novak Djokovic didn't win his 25th Grand Slam at the 2024 Australian Open in Melbourne, and the question remains whether he will ever do it.

The Serbian is arguably the greatest tennis player of all time when it comes to achievements, and let's assume that he will keep playing well for at least two more seasons, given he showed no signs of slowing down.

That gives him at least seven chances, if healthy, to win the 25th Grand Slam. Some bold predictions from last year or the years before claimed he would get to 27 or 28, but he needs to first get to 25.

In the last major he played, Djokovic was beaten by Jannik Sinner in the semi-final, ending a long run without a loss in Melbourne. Sinner is a player on the rise who finally got his crowning moment in Melbourne.

On top of that, other players, such as Carlos Alcaraz and Daniil Medvedev, can give Djokovic problems, as can Rafael Nadal on clay in Paris. Alcaraz did beat him at Wimbledon, and Medvedev overcame the Serbian in the past in New York.

Still, Djokovic also won three of the four Grand Slams last year. One of them is gone this year, but still, there is a pretty decent chance that Djokovic will win at least one more major this year, given his recent dominance.

Although there will be a push from the young generation of players such as Carlos Alcaraz, Jannik Sinner, and Holger Rune, who have all managed to beat him multiple times, the Serbian's experience may still prevail, even if he won't be at his best.

But also Serena Williams previously showed that it may be difficult to make that last step towards history, as she lost four of her last Grand Slam finals in an attempt to level Margaret Court's 24 Grand Slam titles.
