'Could Have Beaten Him': Murray After 'Disappointing' Loss To Tsitsipas At Wimbledon

Andy Murray's 2023 Wimbledon dream is over in the second round after a defeat to Stefanos Tsitsipas in five sets.

For the second round in a row, Stefanos Tsitsipas won a Wimbledon match in five sets. After enduring a really close match against Dominic Thiem in round one, Tsitispas played another close one against Andy Murray.

It was a match that went on for two days after it didn't finish on Thursday due to the curfew in place which stopped play after three sets. Murray was up 2-1 at that time but didn't play as well when he returned one day later allowing Tsitsipas to turn around the match and win in five sets.

It was a disappointing run from Murray after he showed a lot of promise on the surface this year. Many assumed that he would be able to go on a deep run but ultimately not getting a seeding spot proved quite costly. A rather problematic draw for him saw him paired up against a Top 10 player on the ATP Tour in round two, even though it was a player he could have beaten.

Murray seems to agree that it was a match he could have won as he proved to himself this year that he can play with some of the best players. He's had some good wins in the year which is a positive indicator of him being competitive against the best.

Well, I mean, I certainly could have beaten him today or yesterday. I've obviously earlier in the year had a great win against Berrettini who was a top player at the time. He's obviously had his injuries this year.

Yeah, I certainly can. It's clear based on how the match went. I mean, there's only a few points in it today. Like, it's not just about winning the odd match against 'em really. To have a run at these tournaments, you need multiple, multiple wins in a row. Yeah, I've obviously not done that, yeah...
