Casper Ruud's Oops Moment: Discloses Unknown ATP Schedule Change

| by Balasz Virag

Casper Ruud found himself in hot water after committing a press conference gaffe during the 2023 Mexican Open in Acapulco.

The world No. 4 unintentionally disclosed a change in the ATP Tour schedule, which led to a lot of confusion and speculation amongst the press. During the press conference, after his loss to Taro Daniel in the second round, Ruud talked about his intentions to compete in the next year's tournament.

Unintentionally, he mentioned that he will play the events in Acapulco and Los Cabos back-to-back, hinting at the Los Cabos Open being moved earlier in the calendar year. The accidental slip-up sent shockwaves through the press conference, leaving the nine-time title winner red-faced.

"I feel great support so makes me want to come back for sure. Let’s see how the schedule looks for next year but I think that could be an option. I think also Los Cabos is going to be the week before or the week after Acapulco next year if I’m not mistaken so could be an option to play both."

After some of the journalists were left surprised by his answer, the Norwegian asked: “Did I say something wrong?” He soon realised and said: “Now you know.”
