The 2024 Los Cabos Open is taking place earlier than usual, but that hasn't stopped a strong field from signing up to play in this resort city in western Mexico.
The draw for the eighth edition of the tournament has been revealed. Alexander Zverev will be the sole Top 10 player in the field following Holger Rune's withdrawal and Stefanos Tsitsipas' imminent exit from that group.
The German is set for his tournament debut, opting to play in Mexico this year before heading to the United States. It will be his first tournament since his five-set defeat to Daniil Medvedev in the Australian Open semifinal.
Zverev has won nine of his 11 singles matches so far and will kick off his Los Cabos journey in the second round against either Yoshihito Nishioka or a qualifier. He has beaten the Japanese in both ATP meetings they have contested in the past.
One of the names that could keep Zverev on his toes in this section is Jack Draper, who has made it clear he wants to break the Top 20 this season. But the British lefty hasn't played in a month and faces an obstacle in the first round against Thanasi Kokkinakis.
Alex de Minaur reached the final last year but played poorly in that match, losing to Tsitsipas in straight sets. The Australian will look to address that performance. He has a bye in the first round and awaits the winner of the match between Alex Michelsen and Constant Lestienne in the second round.
De Minaur's projected quarterfinal opponent is Jordan Thomspon before a potential semifinal showdown against Zverev. In the bottom half, we locate defending champion Tsitsipas, who will be out of the world's Top 10 next week.
The Greek will need to wait to learn the identity of his second-round opponent. It could be Rodrigo Pacheco Mendez, a former junior No. 1, or Aleksandar Vukic. Tsitsipas could meet Miomir Kecmanovic in the quarters, but the Serb must beat Rinky Hijikata and then a qualifier to get there.
Another top-ranked player making his Los Cabos debut is Casper Ruud. The Norwegian is one of the top four seeds who has a bye in the first round and will face one of Marcos Giron or Taro Daniel to start his campaign. The complete draw has been compiled and can be seen below.
