The 2024 Chengdu Open will kick-off the Asian hard-court swing and the prize money details for the tournament have been released.
The ATP 250 tournament in Chengdu will serve as a great start to the Asian hard-court part of the season for those that didn't do well at the US Open and wanted to get used to the conditions in China before competing at other tournaments such as the China Open in Beijing or the Shanghai Masters.
There is also an option to compete at the Japan Open in Tokyo, but many tennis players prefer to stay in China, as the biggest tournament of this series, the Shanghai Masters, is held in the country.
It all starts, however, with the Chengdu Open, held from September 18th to 24th, at the Sichuan International Tennis Center, in what will be the sixth edition of this tournament.
The list of previous champions includes Karen Khachanov, Denis Istomin, Bernard Tomic, Pablo Carreno Bust, and Alexander Zverev, and with none of them set to compete in 2024, a new champion will be crowned in Chengdu.
The entry list for the 2024 Chengdu Open includes many exciting names, such as Lorenzo Musetti, Nicolas Jarry, and Alexander Bublik, who will all want to fight for the trophy.
Apart from the trophy for the champion, they will all also fight for their share of $1,171,655 that will be distributed at the tournament in prize money, with the winner earning the biggest part of it.
The champion at the 2024 Chengdu Open will grow his bank account by $178,195, which is a hefty sum for an ATP 250 tournament, and on top of that, the winner will also earn 250 valuable ATP ranking points.
The runner-up will have a few reasons to be sad about the final loss, but there will also be reasons to celebrate. Specifically, 165 ranking points and $103,950 in prize money.
While the highest-ranked players will be looking at the trophy in Chengdu, some of the lower-ranked players at the event, or the event's dark horses, will certainly take it one match at a time, focusing first on their first-round match.
The likes of Gael Monfils, Lorenzo Sonego, Fabio Fognini, and Roman Safiullin will be among those that will want to go far but might face a very difficult journey to the final.
That will start in the first round, in which, if they lose, they will be rewarded with no ATP ranking points but $12,565 for their efforts. Making it to the second round significantly changes the situation, as players will get 25 points and $20,565.
All four losing quarter-finalists at the 2024 Chengdu Open will be awarded 50 ranking points as well as $35,415, and those that will make it to the semi-finals will get 100 points and $61,115. The full breakdown of prize money and points for the 2024 Chengdu Open can be viewed below.
