WATCH: Sabalenka Furious Before Staging Comeback To Reach US Open Final

| by Sebastian Dahlman

Aryna Sabalenka endured a really tough matchup against Madison Keys at the 2023 US Open, and her frustration boiled over in the second set.

Sabalenka is generally used to smashing opponents on a tennis court, so when she got smashed in the opening set of her US Open semi-final against Madison Keys, she was furious. The American was on fire in the first set, beating her 6-0, and looked really strong in the second set as well, taking an early break.

Down 0-6 1-2, Sabalenka went over to her box shouting in frustration and complaining that Keys had to have one good match of the year in the semi-final. She used some rather choice words, which cameras picked up, and translations made their rounds on social media.

"A stick shoots once a year, so why the f**k in the semifinals."

Translations of what Sabalenka reportedly said to her box

She was able to calm down on time and actually escape in the second set to force a decider, which she won despite being down a break once more. Speaking after the match, Sabalenka addressed her ranting to her box.

Yeah, it was crazy. I was all over the place. I was just, like, what can I do? Like, she's playing unbelievable, just, like, crushing everything. I'm not able to do anything, like, I had zero control in the match. I was just, like, I was just keep telling myself, I mean, okay, there is going to be this like this? Somebody going to just play their best tennis?

You just have to keep trying, keep staying there, and keep pushing it. Maybe you'll be able to turn around this game. Lucky me, somehow magically, I don't know how I was able to turn around this game.

Keys ultimately didn't keep playing her best tennis as Sabalenka found her shots and won the match. She'll face Coco Gauff in the final.
