Daniil Medvedev might be a busy tennis player, but he took time out of his schedule to practice with 14-year-old super-talent Ksenia Efremova.
The 14-year-old is already making buzz in the tennis world, although her name is pretty unknown to the average tennis fan. It's an interesting story that the Moscow-born Efremova moved to France with her mother in 2019 to train at the Mouratoglou Tennis Academy.
It's a pretty familiar trajectory as we've seen many big talents come through the ranks of the Academy, and her story is similar to that of Medvedev. He, too, went to France when he was young, though unlike Efremova, he remained a Russian national.
Efremova applied for French citizenship and became a French national in 2023, swearing allegiance to France in the process as well. She's one of the brightest talents in Europe and practiced with Medvedev leading up to this season.
The Russian uses the Mouratoglou Tennis Academy often for preparation because he lives nearby, and during one of those practices, Medvedev and Efremova hit a bit, giving a lot of experience to the teenager. The video was posted on her Instagram.
Both had good starts in 2024 as Medvedev made it to the final of the Australian Open, losing to Jannik Sinner, while Efremova made it to the junior quarter-final, losing to the eventual champion, Renata Jamrichova.
She also won a trophy in her second-ever professional event in December of last year. She played in Monastir and won a 15K event by beating Selina Dal in the final 7-6(5) 6-0.
We'll see what the future brings for her and whether she can follow Mirra Andreeva in becoming yet another 15-year-old who debuted strongly on the WTA Tour. For now, she'll want to focus on improving her game and rising through the ranks slowly.
