Swiatek Wants To 'Not Panic So Early' After Hard-Fought Win At Australian Open

Iga Swiatek had a pretty rough going against Danielle Collins at the 2024 Australian Open, and she hopes to avoid panicking early in the coming rounds.

Swiatek and Collins played one match at the Australian Open before clashing in 2024. It was back in 2022 when Collins made the final, and she bested Swiatek 6-1, 6-4 in the semi-final to get there.

The match was strange as Swiatek panicked quite a bit due to being unable to counter Collins's serve. Something similar happened again this year, but this time around, she was able to turn around a 1-4 deficit to win the match in three sets.

In the aftermath, Swiatek spoke to the media, admitting that sometimes she panics too much and tries to do too much while it would be better to just relax and play her tennis. It's something she's working on and hopes to improve upon in the future.

"I will always try. Actually I'm usually wanting to try even too much. The team is like, Keep it easy, keep it cool. If you're going to kind of just try and try, these things may improve."

"I think, like any champion would say to you, basically most of the times they haven't felt comfortable throughout the whole two weeks of the Grand Slam."

Grand Slams are long, and players have to play multiple matches. Very rarely there is a week where every match is this superb showing without any problems.

Some legendary players like Rafael Nadal and Novak Djokovic make it look easy, and Swiatek aims to get to that level. Just relax and improve with every match, making it look easy.

"We've seen many tournaments where, I mean, Novak, I haven't seen him play, but it seemed like he's not winning too easily. He's also that kind of person that probably improves during the tournament, is able to do that. I also saw Rafa on some tournaments doing that. I'm just trying to take an example from that and not panic so early."
