Although Serena Williams played her last match at the 2022 US Open after announcing retirement previously, it seems that she may change her mind very soon.
It's always difficult for athletes to say the last goodbye to the sport they love and spent their whole life playing. In a world of tennis, we've seen many players that came back even after retiring and Serena Williams can be also one of them.
The 23-time Grand Slam champion announced that she won't be playing after the 2022 US Open and all of her matches in the Flushing Meadows were sold-out with many celebrities coming to witness the last matches of the 40-years-old American.
However, despite stating previously that this will be her last tournament, Serena Williams already hinted that she can come back already at the 2023 Australian Open, where she triumphed 7 times in her career and also where she lifted her last Grand Slam trophy.
"I'm ready to, like, be a mom, explore a different version of Serena," said Williams. "Technically in the world I'm still super young, so I want to have a little bit of a life while I'm still walking."
"(I) don't know (if it was my last match)," said Serena Williams. "I'm not thinking about that. I always did love Australia, though (smiling). But yeah, you know what, I've come a long way since last year at Wimbledon."
"Just not sure if that was my last moment or not. Making it a different moment I think is much better. Yeah, and it takes a lot of work to get here. Clearly I'm still capable. It takes a lot more than that."
