Serena Williams chalked many records during her playing career, and now her daughters are following suit in their business ventures, becoming the youngest co-owners in professional sports.
Through their mother Serena Williams, and father Alexis Ohanian, a man with an appetite and an eye for business, Olympia Ohanian and newborn Adira River Ohanian became owners of professional sports teams in soccer and golf. This was confirmed by Alexis on his social media platforms.
Alexis, who is 40, is the lead investor of Angel City FC - a women's soccer team that debuted in the National Women's Soccer League (NWSL) in 2022 - and the Los Angeles Golf Club (LAGC) which is the inaugural team in TGL - a planned golf league formed by sports executive Mike McCarley and professional golfers Tiger Woods and Rory McIlroy that will commence in 2024.
"Announcing my fellow co-owner of @wearelagc… @olympiaohanian! Olympia is the youngest owner in professional sports (@weareangelcity) and is now the youngest 2-team owner in professional sports. She’ll be joined by her future sibling."
Soon after Serena Williams and Alexis Ohanian became parents for a second time last month, Alexis took to X (formerly known as Twitter) to respond to a tweet about Adira's involvement as a co-owner of both the soccer and gold teams he is the majority shareholder. He added that his investment covers their future kids, too.
"So is Adira! (as a co-owner). The trust I invested through covers Olympia and future kids Serena and I have — so Adira is a part of @weareangelcity ownership, too!"
Ohanian has championed investment in women's sports. This largely explains why he owns two sports teams. He voiced support in the aftermath of seeing viewing numbers for the 2023 US Open final in which the women's final had better numbers than the men's.
