Aryna Sabalenka is crushing everything in front of her at the 2024 Australian Open, but she still wants to improve in the coming matches.
The Belarusian player has been on fire this year, easily winning matches. She was utterly spectacular in Brisbane, making her way to the final of that event without dropping a set.
She was bested in the final by Elena Rybakina but bounced back really well in Melbourne. It's a special place for her because she won her maiden Grand Slam trophy at the event last year.
It's obvious that she feels great, and her play so far at the event has reflected that. A 6-0 6-1 win over Ella Seidel followed by a 6-3 6-2 win over Brenda Fruhvirtova.
The most recent match played was a 6-0 6-0 win over Lesia Tsurenko, which was a perfect match. There was nothing bad with that match, but Sabalenka still thinks there is room for improvement. She's right, but it has to be said that her current level has been spectacular.
"Well, there is always something to improve, you know. That's why you just can't be happy with the level you are at right now so you always have to keep moving, keep improving. That's why I said like even better."
Things are not going to get easier for Sabalenka, who will play against Amanda Anisimova in the next round. It's a pretty complicated matchup, which has given her problems in the past, so she'll have to be careful not to underestimate her opponent.
If she wins and progresses further, she'll only find herself playing against better and better players. Then we'll see if she has what it takes to successfully defend her trophy or whether some of the opponents would be able to challenge her despite her incredible level.
