Andy Roddick discussed women's tennis on the latest episode of his Served with Roddick podcast, noting that Aryna Sabalenka is already a Hall of Famer.
Roddick himself is a Hall of Famer, having been inducted into the Hall of Fame in 2017. He's firmly of the opinion that the Belarusian player will join him there. Sabalenka has been around for many years, even though she's only 26.
She's a two-time Grand Slam singles champion, having won the Australian Open in 2023 and this year. She's also a two-time Grand Slam doubles champion, having won the 2019 US Open with Elise Mertens and the 2021 Australian Open also with the Belgian.
She's also a five-time WTA 1000 series champion, having won in Wuhan in 2018 and 2019, Qatar in 2020, and Madrid in 2021 and 2023. She also has two doubles WTA 1000 trophies together with Elise Mertens.
She's been in 27 finals, winning 14 trophies, and she certainly won't stop here, and that's why the former American player argued that her career has been Hall of Fame-worthy.
"Sabalenka now is someone who has won two Slams, has been No. 1 in the world, has a bunch of WTA 1000s. She's a hall of famer already. She just is. My dumb a** is in, she's in, simply."
The more fascinating development to follow will be just how good her overall resume will be because she's certainly not done and won't be done for many more years.
The recent final against Iga Swiatek in Madrid proved that she's pretty close to the Polish player in level, which is amazing considering how great Swiatek is.
Both are in action this week, and they're both doing well. Sabalenka is in the quarter-final of the Italian Open, so she's keeping her level high and consistent. As long as she keeps doing that, she won't have any problems adding to her resume.
