Elena Rybakina continued her great season this week at the 2024 Porsche Tennis Grand Prix in Stuttgart, as she bested Marta Kostyuk to win yet another trophy.
Rybakina has been a tremendous performer this year, winning a couple of trophies already. She's also lost in the finals before, such as in Miami, so she could have even had more trophies this year.
This most recent run happened at the WTA 500 event in Stuttgart, where she produced a really solid level all week long to best all of her opponents.
Of course, her most impressive win was over back-to-back champion Iga Swiatek, whom she bested in three sets. That gave her a chance to compete for the trophy against Kostyuk, and she proved better than the Ukrainian.
The opening set was a pretty comfortable cruise for the Kazakhstani player, as she won the set 6-2, outplaying her opponent from the baseline. Rybakina's consistency from the baseline was likely to cause problems for Kostyuk, who can be very streaky.
In the first set, she wasn't able to match her opponent, who was amazing on serve. Rybakina barely dropped any points and comfortably crushed the ball on return to cruise.
The second set wasn't that much different, even though Kostyuk was able to stabilize a little bit. The serve was a major issue for her, so ultimately, she couldn't keep Rybakina away from chances, and the fourth seed used those.
On serve, the Kazakhstani player faced some minor issues but weathered them comfortably to not get broken. Ultimately, she would add another break to win the match 6-2, 6-2.
Overall, it was a solid win for Rybakina, who now has three trophies won in 2024. The Madrid Open is coming up, and the way the court in Madrid plays should suit her game a lot, so maybe she can add a big clay trophy to her tally.
