Andy Roddick was glad to see Emma Raducanu do well at the 2024 Billie Jean King Cup, as he thought it would help her come back to the top.
The American spoke fondly about Raducanu during her maiden Grand Slam title run a few years ago, and he still holds a very favorable opinion of her. Roddick was one of the earliest believers in Raducanu, noting how special what she did was.
These days, Roddick is hopeful of seeing Raducanu back on top because, in his mind, she belongs there. She recently made a good start at the Billie Jean King Cup, where she scored two impressive wins, which were followed by two more wins at the Porsche Tennis Grand Prix.
The former world no. 1 spoke about how her winning run at the Billie Jean King Cup could help her to succeed in 2024 in his most recent episode of the 'Served with Roddick' podcast, in which he praised the Brit.
"You know, who else did a great job at BJK Cup, who I think it could have relevancy for the rest of her season is Emma Raducanu. Came back, skipped Miami first came on clay in a while, beat Parry and Garcia from France in like big matches, that are pressure pack like playing for your country is a nervy gross."
"You feel like you want to vomit, before you go on the court type experience. I thought she did great won a tight match 7-6 in the third against Parry that’s a big win for her she’s lost a lot of tight three setters to get two matches."
Raducanu herself was quite impressed by the way she played recently, describing her level as arguably the best she's ever played. She didn't ultimately win more than four matches in a row, but it's a positive trend ahead of a really busy part of the calendar with a couple of WTA 1000 tournaments coming up as well as the French Open.
