Emma Raducanu is back on the practice courts and hitting tennis balls almost four months after undergoing wrist and ankle surgeries.
The former British No. 1 has been out of action for a while, playing her last WTA tournament in mid-April in Stuttgart. At the start of May, she announced that she had surgery on both her wrists and her ankle to repair chronic physical and was expected to return in the closing months of the 2023 season.
Raducanu has spent time away from the court recuperating and honoring her sponsors in various business deals across the United Kingdon and is also expected to be at this year's US Open where one of her major sponsors, Tiffany, a jewelry company that furnishes the US Open trophies, might look to host her there.
In recent weeks, Raducanu has also been busy building on her fitness after surgery, working vigorously and persistently at the gym. Earlier this month, she shared a sneak peek of herself on the tennis court for the first time, where she practiced with soft balls as she eased her wrists into action opposite fellow Brit Kyle Edmund at the National Tennis Centre in the UK.
Sources close to the 20-year-old have since caught a glimpse of her on the tennis courts in China in recent days, where Raducanu appears to engage in intense training behind closed doors on an outdoor hard court. After practice, Raducanu posed for pictures with the local staff.
It is unlikely that Raducanu will play in any capacity between now and September. The earliest we might see her could be in October with tournaments in China potentially gobbling up to sign her.
Raducanu is stepping up her preparations for a very important exhibition tournament in Macau, China, which will feature six of tennis' top stars including four ATP players. The inaugural event will take place in the first week of December at the Macao East Asian Games Dome.
