Mirra Andreeva and Dayana Yastremska will meet in a really exciting first-round clash at the 2024 Bad Homburg Open.
The 17-year-old teenage phenom had a good run at Wimbledon last year, and this year, she's looking to replicate that. In 2024, she already had good runs across several events, reaching the quarter-finals of the Madrid Open and making the semi-final at the Roland Garros.
Her only preparation for this year's Wimbledon will be at the WTA 500 tournament in Bad Homburg, and Yastremska will be her first opponent. The Ukrainian played one match on grass before going to Bad Homburg, but she lost already in the first round of the qualifying in Berlin to world no. 157, Zeynep Sonmez.
Both showed that they can play well in 2024, but Andreeva is the favorite because she has a positive score against Yastremska.
They have played twice so far in WTA Tour-level matches, and both times, Andreeva won fairly comfortably. Both matches were played last year, and a lot has changed since then, as both are now Grand Slam semi-finalists.
Still, it's a bad matchup for Yastremska, who struggles with consistent hitters like the young Russian. The teenager might not have the power the Ukrainian has, but she's far more stable in rallies and should be able to throw off her opponent's rhythm.
Mirra Andreeva | Dayana Yastremska | |

17 | Age | 24 |
17-8 | 2024 W/L | 17-11 |
92-26 | Career W/L | 229-160 |
The grass surface will allow Andreeva to put pressure on Yastremska, who doesn't defend that well. She'll likely be the more aggressive player in most rallies, but the Russian's craftiness should be enough to keep her opponent away from any sort of hitting rhythm. That should be enough to win the match.
Prediction: Mirra Andreeva to win in two sets.
