Angelique Kerber will be making a return to tennis in 2024 as she added the Adelaide International to her schedule.
Angelique Kerher has been away from tennis for a little over a year now, as her last tennis match happened in July of 2022. The reason for her absence is rather simple - she became pregnant.
It's been an interesting time for Kerber since then as she mainly remained out of the spotlight, engaging only in several work commitments.
She became a mother in the meantime and is now ready to return to tennis after preparing slowly in recent months. Her first event in the new year will be the United Cup which was the first event that she confirmed.
She is set to play alongside Alexander Zverev for Germany however, that event won't be the only one, of course. She will also make an appearance at the Adelaide International, which will be played after the United Cup and obviously, the Australian Open, which is coming after that.
It's a very packed schedule for the German who hopes to add her name to the growing list of mothers that stunned the tennis world upon their return. We've seen the recent trend with several players, most notably Tatjana Maria last year and Elina Svitolina this year.
Both played amazing tennis as mothers and Kerber hopes to do the same. The Adelaide International is glad to have her as they released a statement after confirming her and other players' participation at the upcoming event.
To be able to confirm four players in the field this early is a strong sign and commitment by the players of their support of the Adelaide International and the great experience they will have here in Adelaide. We are encouraging all tennis fans to secure their tickets early.
