Mirra Andreeva made the 2024 Roland Garros semi-finals, but outside of the tennis courts, she's a normal teenager, who still lives a normal life.
Watching the young Russian play tennis, many tennis fans forget that she's still a kid. We first got to see her as a 15-year-old last year in Madrid, when she actually turned 16 while playing at the WTA 1000 event.
By now, she's 17 years old, but she's one of the best players in the world, which her Roland Garros run confirmed. Last year, she made the fourth round in Paris and also made the fourth round at Wimbledon.
A semi-final is a major feat, especially beating a Grand Slam champion like Aryna Sabalenka. She was also the youngest semi-finalist in 27 years, which shows how strong of a player she is while being basically a baby in tennis terms.
As she revealed when talking in the French capital, outside of the court, Andreeva is a typical teenager who still does her schoolwork, though she doesn't particularly like it.
"I would say that I am almost like a normal teenager because I still have to do my school that I don't like to do. I watch a lot of TV series in my spare time. I watch Netflix, I sometimes spend too much time on my Instagram, or I just do some cr*p when I'm at home. I laugh, I talk, and I just do some normal things."
Even so, there is a lot more clarity in Andreeva's life than in that of the average teenager. While many are still figuring out what path in life they want to take, the Russian already knows what she's going to do in the future, and it's playing tennis. In that sense, she sees herself as a bit more mature than average.
"Maybe what makes me a little different is that I don't know if I can say that I'm mature, but I feel like a mature person. I feel that I know what I'm doing. I would say that maybe I'm a bit more mature."
