Gauff Sets Sights on Wimbledon Crown, Skipping Quarter-Final Milestone

| by Zachary Wimer

Coco Gauff spoke about Grand Slam milestones after her most recent win, admitting that reaching the quarter-finals doesn't feel like a special achievement anymore.

Gauff is a very established player who has won a Grand Slam in her tennis career. She won her first major last year at the US Open, and winning the title was a monumental moment and achievement for the American.

Her career was never going to be the same after that, especially because expectations changed now. It's not about making a certain round now but about trophies.

Her ambition was always to win trophies, but until she could actually do it, it was a bit different. Now it's all about winning, and that's why she doesn't see making a quarter-final at Wimbledon, which she never reached, as something special.

She had never done it before, so obviously, it would be her career-best showing, but to her, it doesn't really change much. Getting to the fourth round and the quarter-finals feels the same to her, even though she did admit that making the semi-final would feel somewhat special.

"I think no, just because I feel like, at this point, losing in the fourth round or the quarter-finals feels the same in a way, just because I do have such big aspirations. It sucks to say this, but once you win, you kind of take it for granted, and I try not to, but it just doesn't feel like a big thing."

"Obviously, it would be special here, so it would be cool to get that, but honestly, it would feel the same. Semi-finals would feel a bit better. "

Gauff's goal is to go as far as possible, and her ambition is clearly to win the grass-court major. She admitted at the French Open that she's looking to win that event, so there is no reason to think that she's not looking to do the same in London.
