Paula Badosa retired in her most recent match at the 2024 Porsche Tennis Grand Prix, and she's now provided an injury update after that retirement.
The last time the Spanish player stood on a tennis court was recently at the Porsche Tennis Grand Prix. She was playing her good friend Aryna Sabalenka and was playing a really strong match.
After losing the opening set, Badosa stormed back to win the second set but also picked up an injury after that. She had an off-court medical timeout but continued to play and played well.
She led Sabalanka early in the final set but then lost that break and ultimately opted to retire at 3-3 in the final set. It was a tough moment for Badosa, who missed a lot of time last year due to various injuries.
She suffered setbacks quickly after returning to the courts, and it's just been very frustrating for her. This recent setback literally broke her heart, especially as it happened days ahead of the Madrid Open, which is her home WTA 1000 event.
One day after the match, Badosa provided an injury update after undergoing tests. It's a small adductor tear, which is not a significant injury, luckily. However, it does put her Madrid Open participation in serious doubt.
"Hello everyone, first of all, thank you for all the support received. These are not easy times for me. Today's medical tests revealed a small tear in the adductor."
"We are going to work with my entire team to be able to play in Madrid. You know how special it is for me to play at home in front of all of you. I'm going to get on that track and be able to enjoy it all together again."
Based on usual projections, it's highly unlikely the muscle will fully heal before the start of the Madrid Open.
