Aryna Sabalenka vs Mirra Andreeva: 2024 Roland Garros - Preview & Prediction

| by Zachary Wimer

Aryna Sabalenka recently defeated Mirra Andreeva in Madrid, and now they'll face each other in the 2024 Roland Garros quarter-final.

The 17-year-old Russian did extremely well at this year's Roland Garros, but that shouldn't be a huge surprise, considering that she did really well in the French capital last year. She failed to make the quarter-final then, but she made it this year after a really good week of tennis.

Her reward is playing last year's semi-finalist, Sabalenka, who has been absolutely on a tear this year on clay. She made back-to-back finals in Madrid and Rome, and it was in the Spanish capital where they last faced each other.

Head-to-head:

They have faced each other three times so far, but only two of those were official WTA Tour-level matches. Funnily enough, both of the official matches were played in Madrid, and the Belarusian won comfortably in both.

Madrid is where she plays her best tennis as it's the one clay court that suits her completely. She won't be as comfortable in Paris, but she's the heavy favorite because the teenager doesn't really have the power to stand up to Sabalenka.

The Russian never came close to winning a set against her, and much of that comes down to now having enough power.

She's still a teenager, so that's not a huge surprise, as she's not even fully grown. Who knows how strong she'll be by the time she's Sabalenka's age?

Prediction:

There is very little Andreeva can really do in this matchup. Her best hope is that Sabalenka has a bad day and misses a lot. She can try to make it tough on the Belarusian, but Sabalenka's consistency has been on point recently.

Prediction: Aryna Sabalenka to win in two sets.
