2022 Berlin Open WTA Entry List - Jabeur, Sakkari, Andreescu, Sabalenka & more

| by Zachary Wimer

The 2022 Berlin Open will be played from June 13th until 19th in the German capital and will feature a stunning entry list with many interesting players coming to play at the WTA 500 event.

After not being part of the WTA Tour since 2008, the Berlin Open last year featured a great player's field and in 2022 it won't be any different. Despite featuring players such as Bianca Andreescu, Elina Svitolina, Aryna Sabalenka and many more last year, the champion was young Russian player, Liudmila Samsonova.

The curiosity is, that in 2022 she initially wasn't featured at the entry list as she was ranked 26th and didn't get into the event directly. However, she was the first player on the alternates list and got in after first withdrawal.

The absence of the last year's champion also says a lot about the strength of the field at the 2022 Berlin Open. Initially, every player from Top 10 of the WTA Rankings except for Barbora Krejcikova who was fighting an injury was supposed to take part at the tournament.

However, Iga Swiatek, Anett Kontaveit, Paula Badosa, Jessica Pegula and Danielle Collins all withdrew and won't play in Berlin this year. This leaves a lot of chances to other players left in the entry list such as Ons Jabeur, Maria Sakkari or Aryna Sabalenka.
