Alexander Zverev congratulated Novak Djokovic on his US Open win with a story on his official Instagram profile.
Zverev has tremendous respect for Novak Djokovic and has a great relationship with him. He was one of the players signing up for the Adria Tour, meeting up with Djokovic in Belgrade before the event was cancelled.
The German has battled Djokovic many times on the ATP Tour and surprisingly handed him a few losses as well. One of those came at the Tokyo Olympics, where Djokovic looked destined to grab the elusive gold for Serbia. It's been one of his biggest dreams, and he looked on track until he met Zverev.
The German turned around the match out of nowhere despite losing the first set, handing Djokovic one of the most painful losses of his career. Djokovic handed Zverev a couple of tough losses as well as he leads the H2H 8-4, with some of those wins coming in the semi-finals.
Even so, the duo greatly respect each other. Zverev showed that by paying tribute to the Serbian following his most recent win over Daniil Medvedev in the US Open final. He reacted to a post from the US Open Instagram page showing Djokovic with his trophy, adding some words.
Not sure what else this man can prove, You’re a legend my friend, not only in tennis, but in all of sport.
It's a really nice tribute from the German who doesn't miss out on chances to pay tribute to the legends. He's always been quite respectful towards the best players, probably due to having grown up on Tour and knowing most of them since he was a child.
After all, his older brother Mischa battled all of these players for years before the younger Zverev even made it to the Tour. Regarding his career, Zverev will miss Germany's Davis Cup clash due to injury.
