"All good when you win, typical" - Kyrgios on Rune & Wawrinka's Feud

| by Alex Waite

Nick Kyrgios sided with Holger Rune following the 19-year-old's confrontation with Stan Wawrinka at Indian Wells.

Rune and Wawrinka clashed once more after the Swiss player beat the 19-year-old in the third-round contest, which followed on from a previous spat at the Paris Masters in 2022. After the post-match handshake at Indian Wells, Rune said to Wawrinka, "You’ve got nothing to say now?” before the 37-year-old replied, “What do you want me to say?”

No stranger to a heated exchange himself, Kyrgios was quick to weigh in on the clash as the Australian player took to Instagram to voice his support for Rune.

"Hahahaha yeah all good when you win… typical. Holger Rune with you my brother.”

Kyrgios' support for Rune is perhaps no surprise as the Australian previously had an incident with Wawrinka in 2015 when he made comments about the Swiss player's girlfriend during a match at the Canadian Open.

The words eventually led to a confrontation between the players and they had to be separated from one another. Wawrinka then later spoke out about Kyrgios.

"So disappointing to see a fellow athlete and colleague be so disrespectful in a way I could never even imagine, What was said I wouldn't say to my worst enemy. To stoop so low is not only unacceptable but also beyond belief."

In addition, Kyrgios seems to be a fan of Rune, and the Australian offered to mentor the 19-year-old Danish player earlier this year.

Kyrgios is not playing at the 2023 Indian Wells tournament as he recovers from knee surgery. The 27-year-old has not featured since he pulled out of the Australian Open in January.
