Jannik Sinner won the 2024 Halle Open title a few years ago, but he doesn't think it changes anything for Wimbledon.
The Italian has arguably been the best player this year, winning one Grand Slam and a handful of other trophies. The most recent triumph came at the Halle Open, where he bested good friend Hubert Hurkacz to lift the first grass trophy.
He'd like to add one more in London, even though it's going to be difficult because many other great players are trying to do the same. Winning at the ATP 500 event in Halle was certainly a confidence boost for Sinner, but he doesn't think it changes a lot for Wimbledon because it's a 'different event.'
"It has improved for sure but I think the general level has improved. I serve a little bit better which helps a lot on this surface and trying to return a little bit more aggressive. I’m obviously happy about this year but Wimbledon is a different tournament. Let’s see what I can do."
The Italian is changing his approach to Wimbledon a bit this year. He's going to go there early and make his recovery after Halle there. The idea is just to arrive in London a bit early and soak it in, compared to last year, when his run ended in the semi-final at the hands of Novak Djokovic.
"It’s a little bit different this year in Wimbledon. I have one week to prepare in the best possible way. I’m going to London quite early. I’m going to rest a couple of days and then hopefully be ready."
He's among a few players who might actually go all the way and is also the number one seed. That alone indicates that he's one of the likely winners, but as he said, it's a new tournament.
