Christopher Eubanks was never that well known to the wider tennis audience but he's seeing that happen now after his iconic Wimbledon run.
Eubanks hovered around the top echelon of tennis for a while as the American was always a familiar face during the ATP Tour's stay in the United States. A few wild cards here and there and some solid runs allowed him to be known to most dedicated fans, yet the wider tennis audience didn't really know him.
His career never took off enough for him to really play much outside of the US, at least not until this year. This year proved different as he put together some solid performances to make his way to the Top 100, and things snowballed from there.
He won his maiden ATP trophy in Mallorca and then followed that up with an impressive run at Wimbledon. The American was a guest in the Behind the Racquet podcast, where he talked about being recognized more often after his Wimbledon run.
As I'm getting ready to pay, I stand up, a guy sitting directly next to me sees me and I guess he turns to me and he goes, 'Hey, my son also went to West, we're so proud of you like keep it up', and gave me a fist bump and I was like, 'Man this is different, this is weird.
So I've had to adjust with a little bit of that and since being home out of the ordinary. Earlier, a couple hours ago, I went to a native one of my favorite Mexican restaurants, and a guy saying he went to high school with my older brother and they were supporting me and I'm like, 'Okay, thanks.' It's weird, very, very weird. It's something I'm not used to, but I think I'm handling it fine.
