One of the wildest tennis stories of the 2024 season might be happening away from the courts following the shocking reunion of Stefanos Tsitsipas and Paula Badosa.
It's been almost two weeks since former WTA World No. 2 Badosa went public to announce the unexpected split from her boyfriend Tsitsipas, whom she has been dating for a year.
In a statement on her Instagram stories, the American-born Spaniard wrote, "Stefanos and I have decided to amicably part ways," and that each chose "to move forward on their own paths."
Badosa and Tsitsipas have become one of the most popular tennis couples of the current generation. They even own a joint Instagram account, "Tsitsidosa," in which they update the tennis community on their love life.
The pair's budding relationship also made them work together, often training and playing exhibition matches as a doubles team. Last year, they signed up to play mixed doubles at Wimbledon until Badosa withdrew from the tournament because of a back injury.
Following their recent split, Badosa compared their relationship to that of Maria Sharapova and Grigor Dimitrov, referring to the Greek ATP star as a "right person" but who just showed up at the "wrong moment."
It was a bizarre claim, considering that they were both very forthright about how they pushed each other to become better players. Tsitsipas once revealed that he dreamt of them becoming joint No. 1s on their respective tours.
But in a new twist, the separated couple were spotted intimately walking on the streets of Monaco. In a video shared by a fan account on X, "Tsitsidosa Updates" (formerly Twitter), they locked their hands before driving off inside a luxurious car.
Neither Tsitsipas nor Badosa has confirmed on social media that they have reunited. It's very likely the pair want a low-key affair away from the public eye.
Badosa recently pulled out of the 2024 Morocco Open and will now turn her attention to playing at Roland Garros. Tsitsipas, meanwhile, will prepare for the same tournament after a quarterfinal defeat at the Italian Open.
