WATCH: Medvedev shocked by boos after victory in Vienna but quickly responds

At the 2022 Vienna Open in Austria, Daniil Medvedev and Dominic Thiem—both winners of the US Open—met.

The Russian had it easy in the first round of the competition, but the home fan favorite had to fight through three sets before winning. The home crowd would not have preferred to see Daniil Medvedev dominate from beginning to end in the second round of the 2022 Vienna Open, but he did anyway.

After two comfortable sets, Daniil Medvedev won 6-3, 6-3 and the crowd in Vienna didn't like that as they showered him in boos. Former world no. 1 swiftly responded as he noticed it but then obviously showed respect towards his opponent, who wasn't to blame.

After the match, he said: “It was a tough match. [Around] one hour, 40 [minutes], and you know when it’s one hour, 40 minutes, even if you win 6-3, 6-3, that it was a tough match. It could have gone either way."

"At one moment in the match I started to put a lot of pressure on his serve. I was serving good myself, so didn’t [give] him to many opportunities on my serve, and that was the key today I think.”
