Jannik Sinner quite literally put his body on the line for Italy at the 2023 Davis Cup Finals, so he'd be glad it worked out well.
This month is the month when Jannik Sinner makes a lot of Italians happy. He had the full backing of the Turin crowd last week at the ATP Finals, delivering some amazing performances in his run to the final.
He didn't have enough to down Novak Djokovic in the final but returned to winning ways in the Davis Cup. First, he won his singles match to give Italy a chance to fight for the semi-finals in the doubles.
Then, he suited up for double-duty in the doubles, delivering another stellar performance to lift his country past the Netherlands and into the semi-final.
It was a really solid performance from Sinner, who used to play doubles quite often in the past, even though he hasn't done it that much lately. He gave it his all, and it worked out well, though he endured a very bizarre hit to the head, which was thankfully only minor.
He was able to dodge the full force of it and continue the match, but it was certainly interesting, which you don't see often, at least when it comes to headshots.
When it comes to the competition, Italy awaits the winner of the last quarterfinal tie between Great Britain and Serbia, so there is a fairly decent chance that we might see Djokovic and Sinner play once more, this time representing their countries.
It depends on who wins, but there is a good chance that Djokovic will provide Serbia with some of the heroics Sinner did to Italy. The Serbian would like to avoid getting hit like Sinner did because, if we go by history, he's not very happy about those situations, especially when he faces Cameron Norrie.
