In a highly-anticipated fourth round match at the 2023 Australian Open, Stefanos Tsitsipas emerged victorious over Jannik Sinner in a five-set thriller.
The Greek player was yet to lose in 2023 after a perfect start at the United Cup and superb performances in Melbourne. Tsitsipas struggled at Grand Slams in 2022, with his last quarterfinal appearance being in Melbourne and so he wanted to do that again this year.
The match began with a strong start for Tsitsipas, as he took the first set 6-4. He continued to dominate in the second set, winning 6-3. However, Sinner refused to go down without a fight. He fought back in the third and fourth sets, winning both 6-3 and 6-4 respectively, to force a fifth and final set.
In the fifth set, Tsitsipas regained control of the match and won 6-3, securing his spot in the quarterfinals.
Tsitsipas' victory over Sinner was impressive, as the Italian had been playing very good tennis, especially in the third and fourth sets.
Tsitsipas will now face off against Jiri Lehecka, who previously stunned Cameron Norrie and Felix Auger-Aliassime, and will be looking for another upset in Melbourne.
