Tsitsipas Serves His Way To Monte Carlo Quarterfinals

| by Alfredo Bassanelli

Stefanos Tsitsipas, the two-time Monte-Carlo Masters champion, continues to blaze a trail through the clay courts.

After another consecutive victory in the Monte-Carlo Country Club, Tsitsipas secured his place in the quarterfinals, triumphing over Nicolas Jarry with a 6-3, 6-4 win in their third-round encounter.

In another dominant display of skill, the second-seeded Tsitsipas conquered Court Rainier III, giving no quarter to World No. 58 Jarry. The Greek showcased his serving mastery, achieving a single break of Jarry's serve in each set and securing victory in just 93 minutes.

Tsitsipas' remarkable performance included winning 80% (32/40) of points on his first serve and fending off both break points he encountered. Jarry, who had previously bested Tsitsipas in their sole ATP Head2Head meeting in 2019, could not reproduce his earlier success against the Greek. Tsitsipas, undeterred by past encounters, took charge of the match and ensured that history would not repeat itself.

Now boasting a stellar 14-2 record in Monte Carlo, Tsitsipas moves forward with his eyes set on the quarterfinals. Awaiting him is a face-off against either eighth-seeded Taylor Fritz or Jiri Lehecka. After the match, Tsitsipas was happy with his performance, saying:

“I had to deal with a few [tough] points, especially when he had break points. I dealt with those situations very maturely and played precisely, so it was great out there."

“He’s someone that has had good results on clay, someone that can serve big as well. It was all sort of played in the small details, and I’m really happy that I pulled through and gave myself such a good ending to this match.”
