Stefanos Tsitsipas will face a mammoth challenge in his next match at the 2024 Roland Garros, having to play Carlos Alcaraz, but he's quite confident that he can get it done.
The Greek player came back wonderfully to beat Matteo Arnaldi in Paris on Sunday, setting up this clash against Alcaraz. Earlier in the day, the Spaniard himself cruised in his match to secure a spot in the quarter-final, which will make this upcoming matchup possible.
He knew he might face Tsitsipas in the upcoming match, and he spoke nicely about him afterward. Tsitsipas has never beaten Alcaraz before, but even so, the Spaniard is really looking forward to playing that match.
"I’m really looking forward to playing this match. I love these kind of matches. I’ve seen a lot of matches lately from Stefanos. I know he’s playing great tennis and has a lot of confidence right now."
" I think I have the key against him. I’ll try to put the shots that get him in trouble. I’ll try to show my best. Hopefully the crowd enjoys as much as I’m gonna enjoy. Let’s see how it’s gonna be."
They actually played in the Roland Garros quarter-final last year, and Alcaraz easily won that match. Many expect something similar to happen this time around but Tsitsipas seems quite determined to change that. He seems to think that he can beat Alcaraz, but that hasn't really happened yet.
"Yeah ok we know. He’s said in the past he likes playing against me. So I hope he likes it a little bit less this time. I hope I can get him to that stage of feeling that it’s not so comfortable playing against me."
"That’s my goal gonna into the match. I hope there are chances on my side I can utilize. And I can great an amazing atmosphere like today. These are the moments I’m waiting for as a tennis player."
