Holger Rune and his mother Aneke share a special bond, and there has never been an untold secret that the 20-year-old has kept to himself but opened up to her.
Rune is not just showered with parental love, but guidance too. Aneke has been a pivotal figure in Rune's career and has played a key role in nurturing him to become one of the world's top tennis stars.
Since Rune started to play tennis, her mother has solved everything that happened away from the rigors of the tennis court. To Holger, his mother is his confidant, someone he trusts with utmost conviction.
In a recent interview with Bola Amarela, Rune briefly explains the role his mother plays in his current rise on tour. The young Dane states that her solitary goal is to see him realize his tennis dream.
Just like every other ambitious tennis player, Rune's goal is to compete for the top honors. In tennis, this is the equivalent of winning Masters tournaments and the Grand Slams.
"I can trust her 100%. She never says something just to please me. She is always honest. It means a lot. She has no other interest in me apart from achieving my dream. So it’s a very unselfish support and I love it."
Having cracked the world's Top 10 and becoming a mainstay, Rune will now put effort into getting the World No. 1 ranking at some point. He is touted to lead the next generation of superstars on the ATP Tour, together with Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner.
The 20-year-old finished the 2023 season ranked eighth in the world rankings having played in three ATP tour-level finals and winning one trophy (the Munich Open). He'll embark on the 2024 season by playing the Brisbane International in the opening week of January.
