Gael Monfils is back to winning ways after winning two matches at the Canadian Open and he's pretty happy about it.
Monfils spent much of this year dealing with injuries and unfortunately, it's a known story for him. When he's healthy and capable of playing regularly, the French player was a regular Top 10 player. The problem was injuries as he was never quite far away from another one.
It's a familiar story but he's enjoying life right now after two good wins in Toronto. He first downed Christopher Eubanks and then followed that up with a win over Stefanos Tsitsipas. After the match, he confirmed that he's feeling good right now as he hopes that it continues until the US Open.
I would say when I almost 100 percent and I feel great, you know, I have a lot of practice behind me and can practice weeks to weeks and play, you know, even tournament after tournament, I be always a tough opponent. That's why I still play, because I still believe I can be tough for those guys out there.
He worked really hard to be in this position as he still has that competitive fire within himself. It's pretty known that he won't be playing for many more years so any type of success he can still have is a bonus for him.
I really want to keep pushing my body and my mind for this week, and, obviously, for the next week coming up. Because I won't lie. What is tough for me is play weeks after weeks after weeks. And so far it's okay. But I really hope I can keep doing that for couple more weeks. And then it's too far for me next year.
He's going to face Aleksandar Vukic next as the Australian cleared the draw nicely by beating Auger-Aliassime and then Sebastian Korda.
