Stefanos Tsitsipas vs Ben Shelton: 2023 Cincinnati Masters - Preview & Prediction

| by Evita Mueller

Stefanos Tsitsipas was beaten by a very athletic player who has a strong serve in Toronto recently and he'll be facing the same thing in Ben Shelton at the 2023 Cincinnati Masters.

It's been a few interesting weeks for Stefanos Tsitsipas as he had a pretty decent return to the hard courts in Mexico. He made his way to the final where he defeated Alex de Minaur in the final to win the trophy. That success didn't translate well to Toronto because the event is very different from the one in Los Cabos.

Gael Monfils proved too tricky to overcome for the Greek who is hoping to bounce back in Cincinnati. There is a very good chance that he will because he played in the final last year indicating that he likes the conditions here.

Shelton himself hasn't played that well recently but he started winning again recently which is expected after he returned back home. The American defeated Christopher Eubanks in the previous round though it was a close 3-set match.

Head-to-head:

Stefanos Tsitsipas and Ben Shelton have never played on the ATP Tour so far which is expected as the American became part of the top flight of tennis only this year. It's going to be a good one because it's likely going to be close which means anything can happen.

Prediction:

So what might happen in this one? Well, for starters we're likely going to get many aces as both have a powerful serve which will do a lot of damage. Shelton has ways to beat Tsitsipas as he can target his backhand.

The rallies will be crucial though as the serve can only carry you so far. Tsitsipas is far more consistent from the baseline but he is known to miss in the biggest of moments too. It's going to be a tough one to predict but I'll go with Tsitsipas winning in three.

Prediction: Stefanos Tsitsipas to win in three sets.
