Stan Wawrinka didn't finish his first-round match at the 2022 US Open after losing first two sets to Corentin Moutet.
The 37-years-old three-time Grand Slam champion misses only the Wimbledon title in his collection. Stan Wawrinka triumphed at the Australian Open in 2014, at the Roland Garros in 2015 and at the US Open in 2016. However, this year, he lost already in the first round and after the match, he spoke about his career and hinted a possible retirement that may be nearing.
"I'm getting closer to the end, that's for sure," Wawrinka stated. "I was injured for more than a year and it took me a while to feel much better physically and tennis-wise. I still love the game and want to compete a bit longer before stopping. For me as much as I enjoy what I doing I want to keep going."
"I will need to have some results too. Because you can't just keep being on Tour and losing. But I see that I'm playing and feeling better even though I'm not winning yet. I will be back winning matches soon. I know that I'm closer to the end, that's for sure. It's reality," said Wawrinka.
