Spain & Great Britain Earn Wild Cards Into 2024 Davis Cup Finals Group Stage

Tournament hosts Spain and Great Britain have received wild cards into the 2024 Davis Cup Finals group stage, the ITF has announced.

Spain will stage the quarterfinals, semifinal, and final of the oldest team competition in tennis next year at the Martin Carpena Arena in Malaga. The 112th edition of the Davis Cup will begin in earnest in the first week of February 2024 with the qualifying rounds.

The draw for the Davis Cup Qualifiers has been released, and 24 countries will play for 12 spots at the Davis Cup Finals later in 2024. Those 12 qualifying nations will join Spain, Great Britain, and the 2023 finalists - Australia and Italy - in the 2024 Finals group stage in Malaga.

Spain's campaign at this year's Finals ended poorly, finishing third in the group behind the Czech Republic and Serbia, having missed their talisman Carlos Alcaraz.

They won a paltry two of nine matches across three ties. Great Britain fared better, managing to top their group ahead of Australia thanks to a sensational win over France to reach the quarters.

However, a Novak Djokovic-led Serbian team proved too good in the last eight. The 10-time Davis Cup champions will have another crack to end their eight-year drought next season, having received a wild card allowing them to compete at a more advanced stage in the competition.

"We’re delighted to receive a wild card to the Davis Cup Finals Group Stage next year. As a nation we’re passionate supporters of the competition, as was demonstrated with a record crowd in Manchester in September and the fact we took more traveling fans to the ‘Final 8’ in Malaga than any other country."

Scott Lloyd, LTA Chief Executive

"We’re already looking forward to next year’s event and I know the team will be determined to do our supporters proud."

The 2024 Davis Cup Finals group stage matches are scheduled to be played in the second week of September.
