Jannik Sinner had a really nasty fall during his match against Carlos Alcaraz at the Indian Wells Open, and he's unsure whether he will compete in Miami.
This part of the calendar is generally pretty tricky to navigate because the clay season comes up pretty quickly after the conclusion of the Sunshine Double. Players only really have one week between the conclusion of the Miami Open and the start of the Monte-Carlo Masters, and it's not an easy switch.
Ideally, they would want to have more than a week to prepare for clay, but some of the top players simply don't have it. That's why sometimes, they elected to skip the ATP Masters 1000 tournament in Miami to get better prepared for clay.
Rafael Nadal is doing that this year, even though a new injury is apparently part of the reason. Novak Djokovic is also skipping the Miami Open after a disappointing Indian Wells Open campaign, and Jannik Sinner might, too.
The Italian suffered a nasty fall that left him shaken up a bit, and he confirmed that he'll see how he feels when it comes to making a decision about Miami.
"At the moment, I feel a little bit everything on my body (smiling). But it's normal. It's sport. You know, you have to accept this. I had some problems, just small problems, but it was okay throughout until the third set. Then when I fell, I felt a little bit the elbow because I fell over the elbow and I rolled over. So was for me after tough to serve."
Sinner couldn't share too much about his health because he didn't know. The hope is that he'll be ready because staying healthy matters most to him, as he wasn't always in his career.
"Hopefully we will see in the next days if physically I will be good for Miami, which is for me personally the most important. And I'm really happy for him because he's a really great player, good guy."
