Jannik Sinner has been tremendous so far this year and noted coach Rick Macci expects him to dethrone Novak Djokovic as number one by the summer.
No player played better tennis consistently than the Italian this year. The 22-year-old is up to 22 wins this year with only one defeat, which came at the hands of Carlos Alcaraz.
If he's the only player who can beat him, then Sinner must really have a good year because the Spaniard has been arguably one of the best two players last year.
Sinner has won three trophies this year, including the Australian Open and the Miami Open recently. That progression makes him the favorite to be world number one in the summer, according to projections.
Some pundits and fellow players certainly back that, including noted coaches, as he passed Macci's eye test. Macci is a tremendous tennis coach who worked with many tennis players over the years, and he has a pretty good eye for talent.
According to the coach, Sinner will be number one by the summer because he's just too good right now.
"He has been to the mountain top in skiing and loved the view as number one. He will enjoy the view even better at the mountain top in tennis by this summer as number one. Jannik Sinner."
Clay season is coming up, and it's been an interesting part of the season for him. He's pretty good on it but didn't have the best clay season last year, which gives him a chance to gain a lot of ground on his rivals
Alcaraz won multiple trophies (Madrid, Barcelona) and made a deep run at Roland Garros. Djokovic won Roland Garros while Sinner lost in the second round, so there are a lot of points that he can earn.
He also didn't have many highlights outside of making the Monte-Carlo Masters semi-final and the fourth round at the Italian Open.
