While she hasn't been in the sport for a while, Maria Sharapova still continues to be one of the most recognizable tennis faces in the world.

That's not by chance because for much of her career, Maria Sharapova was truly a superstar. From her early breakout in style to her off-court ventures, Sharapova kept the public interest going strong for pretty much a decade which is rare.

There are many great players right now on the WTA Tour and plenty of in history but very few could be considered superstars. Sharapova is certainly one of them and that's why recently her compatriot Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova said that there will never be another Sharapova.

I think for me I always admired. I was impressed by her fighting spirit and character.

Pavlychenkova on Sharapova

Sharapova certainly thinks the same way as she was recently asked about Gazzetta Dello Sport and whether she can see a player that could be considered her heir and the Russian responded that she doesn't. She did praise a few of them but still, Sharapova is Sharapova.

At the moment I don't see my heir on the horizon. There are excellent players with different styles. The formula for success is not easy to achieve, you need a perfect balance between the game, commitments with sponsors and free time.

Even now after her retirement, Sharapova is still one of the best-known players on the tennis Tour. She's staying busy with various things but her popularity certainly still opens up many doors for her. The lack of new stars in tennis certainly helps her in that regard.
