Stefanos Tsitsipas didn't play much tennis leading up to Wimbledon and it might have been a good thing as he's playing a lot at the event.
Stefanos Tsitsipas wanted to play as many matches on grass as possible and while he did take part in three ATP events in three consecutive weeks, he didn't end up playing that much overall. That's actually a good thing because he's playing a lot of tennis at Wimbledon.
Rain affected many players this year though it affected Tsitsipas in a unique way. The Greek player saw one of his matches stopped by rain and another by curfew, and due to that, he was on the court for five consecutive days. Generally in Grand Slams, players have one day off between matches but that's not the case for Stefanos.
He's been out there for five consecutive days and while not all of that was full best of five matches, the Greek couldn't recall a time when that happened before in his career. He was asked how he felt though he didn't respond to that part of the question.
No, I haven't. This is a first timer for me. I was earlier in the locker rooms, the gym getting ready for my doubles match with my brother, only to find out that it's not meant to be today. For another time, again. Quite unusual.
It's not the first time he dealt with something like that overall because it happened to him in the juniors but never in the professionals on the ATP Tour. Opting to play doubles certainly contributed to that but he was spared of double duty again after his win over Laslo Djere.
He did that after his win win over Murray and the match even went to three sets which he would have gladly avoided. He was also supposed to play mixed doubles but his girlfriend Paula Badosa pulled out.
I've dealt with these situations in junior tournaments before maybe once or twice. I don't think to that degree in any professional tournament that I've played in my career. Yeah, that's the very first time.
