Well-respected tennis coach Patrick Mouratoglou hailed Novak Djokovic for the way in which he uniquely approaches winning Grand Slam titles, after his US Open title triumph.

Djokovic took on rival Daniil Medvedev in the US Open final. In stages of the encounter, Djokovic looked to be in a world of hurt from a physical standpoint, especially in that second set. But the Serb found a way, utilised tactical strategies that would turn things in his favour long-term and dealt with adversity like only he really can.

Mouratoglou talked through his thoughts on the US Open final, and what impressed him the most about the way Djokovic went about his business to deliver victory.

"In this 2023 US Open final between Novak Djokovic and Daniil Medvedev, two things were key in that final. The first thing was his mindset. In the finals of Grand Slams, there are two different Novaks. There is the Novak that comes to conquer and when he is like that and he plays his best tennis, he's the best player in the world."

The Frenchman also provided a bit of insight as to the notable difference of the type of Novak Djokovic that attempts to work his way to Grand Slam finals, and the Novak Djokovic that switches everything on to produce in the biggest of finals.

"And there is the Djokovic who comes to the final to avoid losing and this one is beatable. He is extremely difficult to beat but he is beatable. In that Grand Slam final he came to conquer and he did."

The Serbian often does enough in his matches in the early rounds of majors. But the wealth of experience of navigating through major finals in the last 15 years almost makes him the perfect player to rely on in the very big moments of our sport.
