As Wimbledon gets closer day by day, some people have questioned Novak Djokovic's form. Felix Auger-Aliassime took it upon himself to dispel rumours of the Serbian not being at his best.
Some things are destined to go hand-in-hand. One of those being Novak Djokovic and Wimbledon. The Serbian great has not lost a match at the All England Club since 2018, taking his tally to six championship titles.
Winning the trophy in 2018, 2019 and 2021, Djokovic is currently on a 21 match winning streak at SW19. As has become customary in recent years, the Serbian is set to go into The Championships as the number 1 seed this year.
As preparation work for this season's tournament, 'Nole' participated in a warm-up event at the Hurlingham Club, where he played Felix Auger-Aliassime.
Despite comfortably beating the Canadian, Djokovic is still facing questions over whether he is the outright favourite for Wimbledon. Keen to dispel these rumours, Auger-Aliassime said the following after his loss:
“He was a lot better than me for sure. It was a difficult day on the court. He was on it. He was playing well. I was struggling with my serve quite a lot. Novak I felt like he was striking the ball well and returning the ball well from the first game."
“Are Novak and Rafa still the two players to beat? Yes I think so. The sport has evolved and this generation bow is playing a long time. Hopefully mine will play a long time as well. Definitely you can still see that Novak is as fit as all the players on the tour and in the draw at Wimbledon. Considering he is the defending champion, he is one of the best players in history on the grass, he is probably one of the favourites with Rafa.”
