Two-time Wimbledon champion, Andy Murray was disappointed with his early exit in the All England Club and extended his grass-court season.
The 2022 Newport Open is the only grass-court event after the third Grand Slam of the year and Andy Murray will try to win his first title in three years at the event. In the first round, he needed only 55 minutes in what was one of his most dominant performances in a long time.
Sam Querrey is quite solid grass-court player and he showed it at the 2017 Wimbledon. Then first-seeded Andy Murray was defending the title but he lost to the tall American in five sets. 5 years later, they met again at the 2022 Newport Open.
It seemed that it will be a very solid performance from the home player as he started the match with a break. Yet, he quickly lost the lead and the scoreboard showed 2-2 in the set.
Little did Querrey know that it was the last game he won in that match. Murray shifted gears and was unstoppable as he marched to a 6-2, 6-0 win. In the second round, he will take on the 2022 Wimbledon doubles champion, Max Purcell.
