Jannik Sinner vs Stefanos Tsitsipas: 2024 Monte-Carlo Masters - Preview & Prediction

| by Zachary Wimer

Jannik Sinner still looks unstoppable, but Stefanos Tsitsipas would like to end that streak at the 2024 Monte-Carlo Masters.

Sinner has had two impressive winning streaks going this year. The first one lasted through the Australian Open until the match against Carlos Alcaraz in Indian Wells. He started another one in Miami, and it's still going on after his most recent win over Holger Rune at the ATP Masters 1000 event in Monte Carlo.

The Italian is looking as strong as ever, and the switch to clay didn't really bother him too much. The Greek player, on the other hand, didn't have such a good year, falling out of the Top 10 for the first time in 5 years.

He promised to come back in a few weeks, and he might just do it, but he needs to win this upcoming match against Sinner, so let's see if he can keep his good play going.

Head-to-head:

Sinner and Tsitsipas have played some interesting matches in the past. The overall score actually favors Tsitsipas so far, as he's leading the H2H 5-3. Three of those were played on clay, and Tsitsipas won two.

The last two, however, were won by the reigning Australian Open champion, which aligns with his rise in the past year. Sinner is now considered the far better player, and he's the favourite for this match as well.

Neither of the last two matches was particularly close, as Sinner won in straight sets, but this one might be closer.

Stefanos Tsitsipas Jannik Sinner
5 H2H 3
12 Rank 2
25 Age 22
15-6 2024 W/L 25-1
319-149 Career W/L 218-75

Prediction:

The fact that the match is played on clay certainly boosts Tsitsipas' chances because he will have more ways to counter Sinner. He's been difficult to play against so far this week, and Sinner isn't immune to overhitting.

It happens rarely these days, but it might happen similarly to the way he lost himself the second set against Rune. Overall, I still think Sinner will win.

Prediction: Jannik Sinner to win in three sets.
