Rorer Federer will play his last match in his career at the 2022 Laver Cup alongside Rafael Nadal and during a press conference, he didn't hide emotions.
It's always very difficult for an athlete to step out the last time and celebrate the great career in front of fans with one last match. Fans in New York witnessed it when Serena Williams was ending her career and now in London, Roger Federer will bid his farewell to the tennis world. Ahead of the event, the 20-time Grand Slam champion spoke about how he approaches it, when he said:
“I’m not sure if I can handle it all,” Federer said during press conference. “I’ll try. I have had some tougher moments as well in the past, you know, being horribly nervous, you know, all these years sometimes before matches. This one definitely feels a whole lot different.”
“Of course, it’s super special playing with Rafa,” Federer said. “It feels really different, you know. Just walking out on court and having the chance to play with the likes of Rafa or Novak (Djokovic) also in the past has been an amazing experience for me. So to be able to do that one more time, I’m sure it’s going to be wonderful.”
Rafael Nadal, who is going to stand next to the Swiss Maestro during his last match in his career, also spoke about the moment, when he said:
“To be part of this historic moment is amazing and unforgettable for me,” Nadal said during the press conference. “I am super excited and I hope I can play at a good level. Hopefully, together we can create a good moment and hopefully win a match.”
“It’s going to be difficult to handle everything, especially for Roger, without a doubt,” Nadal said. “For me, too. You know, at the end, one of the most important players, if not most important player in my tennis career, is leaving. At the end, live this moment will be difficult.”
