'I Don't Feel Like Myself, But I'm Still Trying': Kyrgios Amid Injury Comeback

| by Zlatko Vodenicharov

Grass season is upon us which means it's Nick Kyrgios's season as the Australian is moving towards a comeback.

Kyrgios hasn't been on a tennis court competitively since taking on Novak Djokovic in a practice set ahead of the Australian Open. He was dealing with a knee injury at that time which ultimately kept him from competing at his home slam.

A surgery later, Kyrgios is gearing up to return on the grass entering multiple events in consecutive weeks such as the 2023 Stuttgart Open where he should be among seeded players, and the 2023 Halle Open, where he won't be seeded due to the excellent entry list.

The grass is his favourite surface for many reasons and he's always been so amazing on it, ever since he made his debut in tennis many years ago. He's so good that multiple pundits have explained that it would be a big shame if he never walked away with the trophy. His best shot so far came last year when he won one set against Novak Djokovic in the Wimbledon final.

“Not gonna lie… this has been a F**KING GRIND. To get back after one of the best seasons of ANY tennis player last year. I don’t feel like myself, but I’m still trying…"

Kyrgios in an Instagram story

An Instagram story posted recently saw him admit that he's been grinding towards a return with his girlfriend's Instagram stories hinting at a 4-5 month travelling schedule furthering the talk about his imminent return. In his story, Kyrgios further admitted that he's not feeling like himself but a few matches on grass should do the trick.

That's the hope at least for many of his fans who have missed seeing him play. He's been quite entertaining on social media providing commentary on Roland Garros but he's most fun on a tennis court, particularly if he's pairing up with his good mate Thanasi Kokkinakis which we'll see at Wimbledon as well.
