Daniil Medvedev lost the top spot of the rankings following the US Open but he's not bothered by it.
Daniil Medvedev, who lost earlier than expected at the US Open was passed over by Carlos Alcaraz, who contrary to Medvedev, had a fantastic grand slam experience. The Russian dropped all the way to rank four, his lowest position in recent months, but he isn't too concerned about it because it makes sense when compared to his results.
"To be honest, I didn't feel much when I lost the No. 1 spot,” said Medvedev. “The ranking is the consequence of your results and if we take the American summer, for example, I did not take enough points to stay No. 1, or even No. 2 or 3" said Medvedev who continued:
“Whereas Casper, Carlos, Rafa, [Nadal] of course, with the two Grand Slams he won at the start of the year, they took a lot more points. So, it's just logical. I have no feelings about it, no reason to cry. I can only tell myself that I have to do better if I want to find this place in the future.”
Since the indoor hard court season is one of his favourites, Medvedev intends to succeed there for the remainder of the year. The Australian Open, which he came close to winning this year, will be his main objective in the coming months.
